For dairy farms in New England, the outlook for milk prices is not good this year. The stress has been tied to suicides among dairy farmers.

The top editor at the Daily Hampshire Gazette and Greenfield Recorder said Wednesday he was fired for speaking out in favor of higher pay for female journalists, but his record on the issue was challenged within hours.

For the most part, the minimum wage gap among New England states will narrow in 2018.

Next month, the minimum wage is increasing in four of the six New England states. Massachusetts’ 2017 rate of $11 an hour puts it in a tie for top statewide rate in the country, along with Washington state. Not far behind are Connecticut, with a new rate of $10.10 an hour, and Vermont, at $10.

Some relief for residents of Northern Berkshire County Wednesday evening. A temporary clinic was scheduled to open at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

The hospital in North Adams shuttered in late March, sending folks seeking emergency room treatment up to Bennington, Vermont, or south to Pittsfield. Now if they need quick attention – but their illness or injury isn’t too severe – they can stop by the MCLA campus. A section of the college Wellness Center will be staffed by employees of Pittsfield’s Berkshire Medical Center.
