Brazil, South Africa, And Daylight Savings Time

It seems a little early for Daylight Savings Time, but we're also ramping up for St. Patrick's Day already too! Appreciating lots of new releases, previewing a wealth of local performances, and thanking our lucky stars for Cumbancha, a magnificent world music label headquartered in Charlotte!

This week's calendar announcements:

The Slambovian Circus of Dreams (AKA The Grand Slambovians) will be performing at Next Stage, 15 Kimball Hill Road, in Putney, VT on March 14, at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, March 14th at 7 p.m., blues guitarist Hunt Smith will be featured in a benefit concert for the Hundred Nights Cold Weather Shelter and Open Doors Resource Center. The concert will be held at the Nelson NH Town Hall.

Burlington's Irish Heritage Festival will be hosting events all around town during the weekend of March 13th - 15th. For more information check their website:  burlingtonirishheritage.org

DaddyLongLegs, featuring  Rick Ceballos, David Gusakov, and Matt Witten, will perform at LuLu’s 11 Main St Bristol on Friday March 13th at 7:30 p.m.

A night of original and traditional music is coming up on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m.at the Whallonsburg, NY Grange Hall. Two Vermont-based bands, Cricket Blue and Cradle Switch will perform.

The Will Patton Ensemble will be performing for the Burnham Music Series at Burnham Hall, 52 River Rd. in Lincoln, on Saturday, March 14th. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. 

The Café Lena in Saratoga Springs presents John Gorka on Sunday March 15th at 7:30 p.m.

 Hello Darlin' Productions presents Canadian songwriter Jon Brooks on Sunday, March 15th at Petit Campus (57 Prince Arthur East) in Montreal.

The Jericho Café and Tavern presents a St. Patrick’s Day special featuring Dale and Darcy Cahill & Co. beginning a 3pm on Sunday March 15th. 

There will be an English Country Dance at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture in Peterborough NH on Sunday, March 15th at 2 p.m. Brad Foster will call, with Lydia Ievins and Peter Barnes providing the music.

Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars will perform at Positive Pie in Montpelier on Friday evening March 13th.

Yarn will return to central Vermont on Thursday, March 12th at 7:30PM for a special evening of Americana/alt-country/folk rock music and dancing at the Seven Stars Center on Route 14 in Sharon.

Lewis Franco & The Brown Eyed Girls  will perform at The Whammy Bar in Calais on Thursday, March 12th at 7:30 p.m.

Fay Baird, Kate Seeger, and Kim Wallach, also known as The Short Sisters, will be performing in the Nelson Town Hall on Sunday, March 15th at 7:00 p.m.

The Music Box in Craftsbury presents Pete’s Posse on Saturday March 14th at 7:30 p.m.

Second Saturday Contradance with Northern Spy at Tracy Hall in Norwich will be held on Saturday March 14th at 8pm, guest caller is Marcie van Cleave. Walk-through and introduction for new dancers at 7:45 pm, no partner necessary, beginners and singles always welcome. 

On Saturday, March 14, Maple Jam perform a capella jazz at the Adamant Methodist Church. The music will start at 7 with an optional potluck starting at 5:30 before the show.

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
