The ACE Pyramid of adverse childhood experiences.

A major study  by the Center for Disease Control and Kaiser Permanente has drawn a close connection between childhood trauma and chronic disease in later life.

Dr. Vincent Felitti is one of the co-authors of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, and this week he's presenting his findings at a conference of Vermont public health and medical professionals.

Dr. Felitti explains the connections he's found between childhood trauma such as domestic violence or a parent in prison, and long-term chronic disease, including obesity and addiction. Tracy Dolan, deputy commissioner of the Vermont Department of Health, also joins us to explain what these findings mean for public health experts in Vermont.

Also in the program, our series investigating the state's mental health care system continues. Today in State of Mind, we explore the the controversial issue of involuntary or forced medication.
