The Council on Pathways from Poverty presented their report to Governor Shumlin recently.

Vermont has a poverty rate of 12.2 percent. And almost a quarter of the state's jobs are considered low wage. Advocates say that the crisis of poor Vermonters is deepening. The Council on Pathways from Poverty recently presented their report on how to reduce poverty to Governor Shumlin.

We speak with Christopher Curtis, co-chair of the council and attorney for Vermont Legal Aid, about the investments, policy initiatives and new resources the report is calling for. We also speak with Elizabeth Ready, director of the John Graham Emergency Shelter in Vergennes.

Also in the program, teen sexting. Adam Bunting, the principal of Champlain Valley Union High School, recently sent an email to the school community to open a dialog with students and parents about the problem.  He talks to Vermont Edition about how that complicated conversation is going.

Plus we talk to Social Worker Trissie Casanova about the safety recommendations the Vermont State Employees Association made to the Joint Legislative Child Protection Oversight Committee.

Broadcast live on Thurs., Nov. 19, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
