Cybersecurity For Small Businesses

A Verizon study found that out of 855 data breaches examined, 71% occurred in businesses with fewer than 100 employees.

Think about cybersecurity, and you'll likely think about some of those headline-making data breaches at big corporations. Superstores and credit card companies losing control over long lists of customers and data.

But the majority of companies that suffer data breaches are small businesses, with fewer than 100 employees. And it's just those businesses that often have the least access to resources needed to guarantee the security of their data online. What can they do to keep their data - and their customers - safe?

We discuss cybersecurity for the state's small businesses with John Burton of the NPInetworking and security company, Stephen Paddock of the Vermont Small Business Development Center, and Vermont Assistant Attorney General Ryan Kriger.

Also on the program, Vermont musician Luke Reynolds, a member of the rock band Guster, recently released a solo album, "After the Flood." He discusses the musical influences that are reflected in his songs, while relaxing in the cabin in Lincoln that he built with his father.

Broadcast live on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
