Designing Love And Making It Last

Even long-lasting relationships need occasional tune ups and check ups to succeed.

Valentine's Day celebrates love, but it also puts a lot of focus on those who are not in a relationship.

What seems to be lacking for many people is information on how to succeed in a relationship and how to make it last.

Bjarne Holmes is an associate professor and director of the psychology program at Champlain College and the director of The LOVES Initiative research and advocacy team. He provides insight into what science teaches us about long-lasting relationships and he explores the idea of "designer relationships." He is also the producer of the Relationship Matters podcast.

Also on the program, the State House moved at the end of January to pass an adjustment to spending thresholds in the Act 46 education bill, so that towns could finalize school budgets in time to prepare them for Town Meeting Day. We're checking in on whether school boards felt that the tweaks came in time, with Nicole Mace, executive director of the Vermont School Boards Association.

Broadcast live on Thurs., Feb. 11, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
Jane Lindholm is the host, executive producer and creator of But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids. In addition to her work on our international kids show, she produces special projects for Vermont Public. Until March 2021, she was host and editor of the award-winning Vermont Public program Vermont Edition.
