Town of Monkton
The town of Monkton is installing culverts for wildlife crossings this week on the Monkton/Vergennes Road.

If you're planning on traveling the Monkton/Vergennes Road Wednesday or Friday, you'll have to go the long way around. But your detour will benefit generations of wildlife that will soon have their own way to bypass the road.A post on the town's website describes the detour:

The Monkton/Vergennes Road will closed on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and Friday, Sept. 25 to allow placement of the culverts for the Monkton Wildlife Crossing. The work zone is approximately 1 mile South of the Monkton Road and Hollow Road intersection. There will be a marked detour out to Route 7 on Hollow Road. There will also be a marked detour up Route 7 to Hollow Road at the intersection of the Monkton/Vergennes Road and Route 7.

The Monkton/Vergennes Road stretches along prime amphibian habitat and the effort to facilitate safe amphibian crossings has been ongoing.
