'I Am Proud To Announce My Candidacy'

Oliver Parini for VPR
Sen. Bernie Sanders touched on a range of issues in his speech to thousands at Burlington's Waterfront Park, from climate change and early education to campaign finance and income inequality.

On a hot, sunny Tuesday evening,  Senator Bernie Sanders said the words that 5,000 supporters had gathered to hear: he is running for president of the United States.  Sanders addressed 14 policy areas in his announcement speech at Waterfront Park in Burlington, and now he's taking his message to New Hampshire and Iowa.

We talk with two Vermont observers of Sanders' campaign: Megan Remmel, political science professor at Norwich University, and Eric Davis, professor emeritus at Middlebury College.

What impression does Sanders' campaign have on you? And what do you think his chances are against Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Primary? Post below or email vermontedition@vpr.net.

Broadcast live on Fri., May 29, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
