Information And Art At The Village Kiosk In Plainfield

Jenni Bee
The village information kiosk in Plainfield serves as a miniature gallery featuring Vermont artists.

Plainfield artist and illustratorJenni Bee's latest endeavor uses a common site in many town centers to showcase the artwork of others.

She is curator of the art inside the village information kiosk in Plainfield.

Bee came to Plainfield by way of Russia and Germany and has been drawing and painting all her life. Trained as a graphic designer, her wry pen-and-ink drawings depict the reality of parenting and her delicate watercolors focus on natural objects and animals she saw on her world travels.

After an idea sprang up from Plainfield resident and selectboard member Bram Towbin, he asked Bee if she would be interested in curating the tiny kiosk gallery.

"There was always one panel that was always kind of semi-vacant and not really used," says Bee. "He's a great photographer himself and he asked me if I'd like to curate the kiosk."

Now in its third month, Bee says she is soliciting artists to show their work at the kiosk gallery. "The first month I showed my own work and the second month [I showed] my husband's work, he is also an artist ..." she says. "I'm hoping to get more people on board ... hopefully we can include artists from all over Vermont."
