Jodi Kantor Brings Message On Gender In Workplace Challenges To UVM

May 3, 2016

New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor covers workplace issues from the demanding culture of Amazon to challenges low income women face in pumping milk at work to how new scheduling apps are keeping workers from a steady income.

Her reporting about the class divide that's keeping many lower-income mothers from being able to pump milk at work even inspired a Vermont business start-up, Mamava. Sascha Mayer and Christine Dodson worked with a designer to create pods that businesses and even airports could use to provide private spaces for nursing mothers.

VPR spoke with Kantor about her reporting, and what challenges many are currently facing in the modern workplace; click the audio above to hear the interview.

Jodi Kantor is speaking tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the UVM Davis Center. Tickers are $50 and the proceeds help the Vermont Women's Fund. VPR's Jane Lindholm, host of Vermont Edition, will emcee tonight's event.
