Mormon Church Not Endorsing NewVistas Developments Planned For Vermont, Utah

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is saying they are not endorsing a NewVistas Foundation project proposed for Vermont.

Utah developer David Hall has been making plans and buying land to construct what he calls a sustainable community around the Joseph Smith Birthplace in Royalton.

Hall is a practicing Mormon, and his plans are based on Mormon scripture, although he says the actual settlement will not have religious affiliations.

This week the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints put out a statement distancing themselves from the project.

The Church expressed its concerns about the impact the development will have on the character of the local communities both in Vermont and in Provo, Utah, where another NewVistas project is taking form.

Hall has said that if the local communities are not in support of his plans, he will not go through with the NewVistas Foundation.
