My Place: Female Vocal Groups Of Early Rock-And-Roll

Courtesy, Joel Najman
The Angels were one of the more successful all-female vocal groups in early rock music best known for their hit, "My Boyfriend's Back." This detail is from the album cover for the group's second record, released in 1963.

This week on My Place, we present an hour full of famous and not-so-famous female rock-and-roll singing groups of the 1960s.
All these early rock groups had memorable names, like The Angels, The Chiffons and The Murmaids and we'll hear selections for all of them.

Joel has been a part of Vermont's radio scene since 1964. He began his career at WIPS in Ticonderoga, New York. In 1965, he moved to WFAD in Middlebury, Vermont, where he attended Middlebury College. Over the years, Joel worked at radio stations WJOY, WQCR, WDOT, WDEV and WVAA where he served at various times as Morning Announcer, Program Director and News Director.
