Sen. Bernie Sanders snagged an early Super Tuesday victory: Vermont's home state candidate has won the state's presidential primary, according to the Associated Press. The AP called the race for Sanders at 7 p.m. As of 9:59 p.m., NPR has called victories for Sanders' challenger, Hillary Clinton, in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

At 9:13 p.m., AP called a victory in Oklahoma for Sanders.

Meanwhile, in the GOP primary race, the gap between Donald Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich has been shrinking; Trump was leading the state with a 1.93 percent margin as of 10:23 p.m. Track the latest results here.

The victory party for Sanders at the Champlain Valley Fair Grounds in Essex Junction is "packed to the gills," according to VPR's Pete Hirschfeld.

When Sanders took the stage, he touched on the familiar themes of income inequality, criminal justice reform and climate change, and thanked his supporters. "The people who know me best ... voted so strongly to put us in the White House. Thank you so much," he said.

  • Addison Central unification has passed, 1,631-278, according to the Addison Independent.
  • Voters in Clarendon, Shrewsbury, Tinmouth and Wallingford have approved a school district merger plan.
  • In Burlington, voters chose to go ahead with a pilot project on North Avenue to add bike lanes to the busy north-south street.
  • Rutland voters have voted to continue to fluoridate their city water, 60-39 percent, the Rutland Herald reports. The city has fluoridated its water for more than 30 years, but this year the practice came into question.
  • The town of Vernon has voted 677-153 to support work on a natural gas power plant, VPR’s Howard Weiss-Tisman reports. The plant would connect to a pipeline that is slated to run 7 miles south of the town.
  • St. Albans City, St. Albans Town and Fairfield have voted to merge school districts, according to Northwest Access TV.
  • Rockingham voters have rejected a proposed detention center in Bellows Falls. The town shot down a nonbinding referendum, 1,053-287, on Tuesday.
  • Users on social media across the state are reporting high turnout at their polling places. The Rutland Town School polling place ran out of ballots at around 5:30 p.m., the Rutland Herald reports, and officials estimated a 30-minute wait for more ballots to arrive.
  • Democratic gubernatorial candidate Sue Minter, Vermont's former transportation secretary, will endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential candidacy today, Peter Hirschfeld reports. Minter and Matt Dunne, also a Democratic candidate for governor, will be speaking at Sanders' campaign party in Essex this evening.
  • The town of Londonderry has approved an $86,000 State Police contract to combat drug crimes, Howard Weiss-Tisman reports. The town began considering the contract after seeing a surge in break-ins and other property crimes.
