The Next Steps On Universal Recycling

Jun 9, 2016

Starting next month, the state of Vermont officially bans the disposal of leaves and yard debris in the trash. We'reĀ digging into this next phase of the rollout of the Universal Recycling Law. Several pieces of that legislation are already in effect, so we'll also look at what impact the law has had so far.

Joining us for the discussion are Josh Kelly of the Agency of Natural Resources, Dan Goossen of Green Mountain Compost, and Paul TomasiĀ of the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District. You can find some answers to your questions at the Chittenden Solid Waste District website.

Also on the program, Burlington Discover Jazz Festival is in full swing but there's still plenty left to check out. VPR's Reuben Jackson shares some highlights.

Correction 5:15pm: In our live broadcast of the show we misstated the rules surrounding the collection of compostable waste for trash haulers and transfer stations. They are allowed to charge fees for the collection of leaf and yard debris and food scraps.

This program is broadcast live on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
