A Nyckelharpa For Easter Sunday

We celebrate the first week of spring with keyed Scandinavian fiddles, three part harmonies, music from the Cape Verde Islands, and a humongous calendar of local music performances!

This program will air on Sunday March 27th from 7-10 p.m.

This week's calendar announcements:

The Phil Henry trio will be performing at the Palmer Street Coffeehouse in Plattsburgh, NY on Friday April 1st. Doors open at 7, and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tim McKenzie will be playing at Village Wine and Coffee in Shelburne on Saturday April 2nd from 3-5 p.m. Admission is free.

The Starry Mountain Singers are touring this month in the VPR listening area, and will be appearing at 118 Elliot in Brattleboro on Friday April 1st at 7:30pm, and at the United Church of Newport on Sunday April 3rd at 4 p.m.

Twilight Music and Next Stage Arts Project present folk singer, songwriter and comedienne extraordinaire Cheryl Wheeler on Friday, April 1 at 7:30 pm at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney with special guest Lizzie Mandel.

Amy Helm and her band The Handsome Strangers visit The Barre Opera House on Friday, April 1 at 8 p.m.

The Claire Lynch Band is coming to Cafe Lena in Saratoga Springs on Thursday March 31st. 

Cafe Lena will also feature David Mallett on Saturday April 2nd. 

The West African group Saakumu Dance Troupe will perform at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse in Bennington on Friday, April 1st at 7:30 p.m.

Nicholas Williams and Alex Kehler will perform music featuring the nyckelharpa at house concerts in Shelburne and Montpelier on Saturday and Sunday April 2nd and 3rd . For reservations or directions for the Shelburne concert, please contact jjames@cssu.org, and for the Montpelier show, contact Tracy at802 223-1234.

The Social Band begins their spring concert tour with performances at the Richmond Free Library on Saturday April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. and at Burlington’s Unitarian Church on Sunday April 3rd at 3 p.m. The theme for this tour is rivers, both literally and metaphorically.

Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band will be playing at Higher Ground in South Burlington on Friday April 1st.

Woodchuck’s Revenge will be playing at the Rutland indoor farmer’s market on Saturday April 2nd from 10-2 p.m.

Harpeth Rising will be the featured performers at the Ripton Community Coffeehouse on Saturday April 2nd. Music begins at 7:30 with the famous open mic, follow by the featured performers.

Brandon Music presents the Dupont Brothers and Friends on Saturday April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Brandon music is located at 62 Country Club Road in Brandon. 
Jorma Kaukonen will be playing at Higher Ground in South Burlington on Saturday April 2nd.  Doors open at 7, and music begins at 8 p.m.

There will be a Bulgarian Dance Party and singing class with Cherven Traktor, a traditional Bulgarian band from New York City, on Sunday April 3rd at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue in Burlington. Singing begins at 1:30 p.m., and for more information contact Louise Brill at802 540-1020 or at dance@together.net

Darlingside will be playing at Higher Ground’s Showcase Lounge in South Burlington on Thursday March 31st.

Rick Norcross will be performing at the Hardwick Memorial Building on Sunday April 3rd at 2 p.m.

He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
