On Tuesday, members of the Sterling College community spread out around their Craftsbury campus for an all college work day focused on removing invasive plants. Even if you don't have an army of college students to battle your Japanese knotweed, you can still join the fight against invasive plants in Vermont.
A new dam to contain Mount Holly's Star Lake is in place and, as of this week, approved by state dam safety regulators. The Friends of Star Lake Committee is reporting that a few finishing touches have also been approved that will improve lake access, but more donations are needed to complete the project.
Voters in Elmore and Morristown will vote on a school district merger proposal on Nov. 3. If successful, the proposal would create one school district between the two neighboring towns. Some Elmore residents are concerned the merger would eliminate school choice as it currently exists in their town and could eventually lead to the closure of Vermont's last functioning one-room schoolhouse.
In his campaign for president, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has brought talk of a "political revolution" to a national stage. And now a coalition of Vermont organizations is calling for a town meeting referendum to revolutionize how politics is funded in Vermont and the United States.
