The Rutland Board of Aldermen decided in a special meeting last night to wait to publicly release the results of an investigation into whether Mayor Christopher Louras overstepped his authority when he sought to make Rutland an option for refugee resettlement.
Louras urged the board to release the results of the investigation and called the special meeting in the hopes they would release it, according to VPR's Nina Keck, who spoke on Morning Edition about the city attorney’s report and the continuing debate over the possible resettlement of 100 Syrian refugees in Rutland.
The report cannot be released to the public or non-board members until the board votes to release it, which means Louras has not seen what's in the report.
In early August, the board asked City Attorney Charles Romeo to conduct a formal investigation of Louras’ actions.
On Sunday, Romeo released his finding to the board, and according to an article on VTDigger.org, the mayor was cleared of any wrong-doings.
However, the results of the investigation are still not available publicly, though the board will take up the issue again at their meeting on Monday, Sept. 19.
