Second Title IX Sexual Violence Investigation Underway At Dartmouth

The Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights opened a second Title IX sexual violence investigation of Dartmouth College in late August, according to documents from the department.

Last May, the Department of Education publicly released a list of colleges and universities under investigation for potential violations of Title IX - the federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in education - related to sexual violence. The list is updated weekly, but only available by request from the department.

According to the October 28 update of the list, Dartmouth is one of 146 colleges and universities facing such investigations nationally. In Vermont, Marlboro College has been under investigation since October 2014.

Of the 146 schools under investigation nationally, Dartmouth is one of 25 with more than one open investigation. The second Dartmouth investigation began August 21, according to the Department of Education list.

The Department of Education "will not disclose any case-specific facts or details about the institutions under investigation," according to a spokesman.

Heather Lindkvist, Dartmouth College's Title IX coordinator, did not immediately respond to inquiries on Friday.
