Services And Support For Brain Injury Survivors

AP/Courtesy of Harvard Medical School

Mon 6/10/13 Noon & 7 pm  Brain injuries can be caused by falls, car accidents, attacks or from a medical situation like a tumor. For survivors, recovery can be a long lonely struggle.

Barb Winters of the Brain Injury Association of Vermont and Andre Courcelle, a Traumatic Brain Injury Program Supervisor for the Vermont Division of Disability and Aging Services, outline the services available for TBI survivors. We’ll also visit a support group in St. Johnsbury to hear how survivors are helped in this setting.

Also on the program, Brandon is looking for a new town manager. We check in with Vermont League of Cities and Towns Executive Director Steve Jefferies about the role that town managers play in the everyday administration of our towns and in times of crisis.

And we return to Summer School for special instruction on how to make the perfect boiled egg from Chef Tom Bivins of Crop Bistro and Brewery in Stowe.

One in five Vermonters is considered elderly. But what does being elderly even mean — and what do Vermonters need to know as they age? I’m looking into how aging in Vermont impacts living essentials such as jobs, health care and housing. And also how aging impacts the stuff of life: marriage, loss, dating and sex.
