For Star Wars Fans, The Long Wait Is Over

Ashley Fraser
Members of the 501st Legion have anxiously awaited the release of "The Force Awakens."

The new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, opens in theaters across the country and here in Vermont.

Star Wars movies - some beloved, some reviled - have a massive fan base. It's hard to pin down another movie that stirs passion and near-fanatical loyalty in quite the same way.

For a Vermont view on the new movie, and the phenomenon of Star Wars fandom itself, Vermont Edition talked with Andrew Liptak, author and science fiction expert. He blogs at Geek Mountain State and Gawker's sci-fi blog io9. He's also a local member of the 501st Legion, an organization that makes and wears costumes of the stormtroopers from Star Wars.

Jane Lindholm is the host, executive producer and creator of But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids. In addition to her work on our international kids show, she produces special projects for Vermont Public.
