Windham County resident Stephan Morse will serve as interim executive director of the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation. The position opened up recently when Governor Peter Shumlin tapped current director Patricia Moulton Powden as Secretary of the State Agency of Commerce and Community Development. Moulton Powden had only been director of the Brattleboro development group for a few months when the administration announced her new appointment.
Morse is a former Speaker of the Vermont House. He served for many years as director of the Windham Foundation and is currently chairman of the State Board of Education. As interim director,
Morse says he'll work to keep the organization’s region-wide economic development planning efforts on track.
"And two additional things will be to lead the search for a new full time executive director, " Morse says. "And then, equally important, dealing with this Vermont Yankee funding that’s going to be available to Windham County in the very near future."
The Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation is expected to play a strong role in developing projects for funding from a five-year, $10 million payment to the state from Entergy Vermont Yankee.
The money is earmarked for economic development in Windham County. It will be administered by the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, under the direction of Moulton Powden.
