Two new programs debuted weekday afternoons at 2 during the week of August 4. You can now enjoy The Takeaway with John Hockenberry Monday - Thursday, and Science Friday with Ira Flatow on Friday.
The Takeaway
The Takeaway is a space on the radio to get a better grip on what’s happening around the country and around the world. Newsmakers, experts and people affected by the news are all part of the conversation. You’ll hear in-the-moment discussions, sharp analysis, and stories you won’t find elsewhere.
John Hockenberry, host of The Takeaway, returned to public radio after 15 years with ABC and NBC, where he hosted Dateline. He has also reported from several locations in the Middle East.
Hockenberry has won four Emmy Awards, three Peabody Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and a Casey Medal. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Hockenberry grew up in upstate New York and Michigan and attended the University of Chicago and the University of Oregon.
Science Friday
Covering the outer reaches of space to the tiniest microbes in our bodies, Science Friday with Ira Flatow is the trusted source for news about science, technology and the curiosities all around us.
Science Friday has brought the top stories in science to radio listeners for more than 22 years. Host Ira Flatow is a veteran NPR science correspondent and award-winning TV journalist. He has discussed cutting-edge science stories on a range of programs, including the four-part PBS series Big Ideas. For six years Flatow was host and writer for the Emmy award-winning Newton's Apple on PBS, and he has been a science reporter for CBS, Westinghouse, and CNBC. He's also the author of numerous books, most recently Present at the Future.
These shows replace NPR's Tell Me More, which ended production on August 1. We hope you’ll tune in for The Takeaway and Science Friday and let us know what you think!
