They Only LOOK Cute and Cuddly

Nancy Carey

Wed 7/24/13 Noon & 7PM When you find bird with a broken wing outside your living room window, who do you call? There are 16 people in this state licensed to rehabilitate wild animals. They take in animals of all kinds (except ungulates) and follow strict protocols to get them back into the wild safely.

We'll talk to Kim Royar from the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and wildlife rehabilitators Nancy Carey and Craig Newman.

And we talk with Vermont author Stephen Kiernan about his debut novel, The Curiosity. Set in Boston, it explores our modern world through the eyes of Jeremiah Rice, a man who was killed in theArctic Ocean a hundred years ago. When he's "reanimated" by an egotistical scientist bent on glory, Rice must navigate contemporary society as well as figure out how to avoid remaining a pawn in an ethically questionable scientific experiment. Along the way, he's aided by the brilliant and stubborn Dr. Kate Philo. We'll talk with Kiernan about his characters and about what inspired him to turn to fiction after a fruitful career in journalistic writing.
