Vermont Gas Can Build Pipeline Under Hinesburg Park, Board Rules

Regulators ruled in favor of Vermont Gas Tuesday in the final eminent domain case related to the company's pipeline to Addison County.

The decisionfrom the Vermont Public Service Board comes after a citizens group challengedthe company's plan to build through a park in Hinesburg.

Ultimately the Town of Hinesburg made a deal with Vermont Gas that allows the pipeline to be installed under the park as long as the company drills underneath the park instead of digging a trench.

The ruling comes as state officials are proposing fines against the company for safety violations during pipeline construction.

Company officials hope to finish construction later this year, though state officials estimatethe pipeline will actually finish next spring.
