VPR Cafe: All Night Cookout

Glenn Russell

Master butcher Frank Pace of Guild Fine Meats surveys sections of steer cooking over a wood fire in a custom-made grill.

A team of chefs gathered for an all night cookout last month in Burlington. The event was called Eat By Northeast (EAT X NE) and it was not your typical burgers and dogs cookout. It was super-sized, with beef, goats, pigs and veal being cooked all night over wood fires for 600 people. Sally Pollak, who writes for the Savorvore section of The Burlington Free Press, stayed awake (most of the time) to chronicle the event. You can learn more and see a photo slide show in Sally's Free Press article.

The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with The Burlington Free Press and is sponsored on VPR by City Market in Burlington.

Broadcast on Sunday, October 26 at 10:50 a.m.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
