A Warm Winter's Impact On the State Economy

Mist rolled across the Connecticut River on 2015's unusually warm Christmas Eve. Much of Vermont has seen months of unseasonably warm weather this winter.

Weather forecasters are looking ahead to a cold and snowy week. It's a turnaround from the relatively warm and snow-free weather we've seen across the state this winter. We're looking at how this winter's weird weather has been affecting the state's economy- from tourism and the ski slopes to heating costs, retail, and beyond.

We're joined by Parker Riehle, president of the Vermont Ski Areas Association, a non-profit trade association. Also by Mat Barewicz, who heads the Economic & Labor Market Information Division at the Vermont Department of Labor, and Kenneth Jones, an economic research analyst for the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development.

Also on the program, we're looking at a new economic development plan that highlights ways to grow jobs by adopting, mitigating and reversing the effects of climate change. To talk about the plan, and how some Vermont companies are already doing this, we're joined by Paul Costello, executive director of the Vermont Council on Rural Development.

And VPR Classical's Timelinewith James Stewart takes on the rise of Romanticism.

Broadcast live on Tue., Feb. 9, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
