Winning Wedding Toasts

Wedding season means plenty of toasts. We've dedicated ourselves to making sure they're memorable for all the right reasons.

At this point in your life, you've sat through enough wedding toasts to know the good from the bad. So why are you still hearing so many cringe-inducing toasts that make the bride blush and send the parents of the groom ducking for cover?

In our effort to make sure that you don't encounter another wedding toast from hell, we've enlisted a team of professionals to provide sage advice for future toasters.

Lizzie Post, president of the Emily Post Institute, author Sean Prentiss, and comedian and justice of the peace Jason Lober share their thoughts on honing the wedding toast to perfection.

Also on the program, Abdul Zahir has been cleared for release after 14 years from Guantanamo Prison in Cuba. We hear from Bob Gensburg, one of the lawyers who represented him.

Plus, VPR's John Dillon provides a wrapup from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Broadcast live on Friday, July 22, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
