The shooting range at Buck Lake Green Mountain Conservation Camp, where hundreds of young Vermonters earn their hunter's safety cards each summer, will be open to the public next month. The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department says the Walter Cabell Shooting Range in Woodbury will be open for limited public use during the three weekends leading up to the start of deer season.

"Shooters will be required to follow all range rules, including following limited hours of operation," a press release states. "A range safety officer will be on site to assist users and ensure rules are adhered to."

The range will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. the last three weekends in Oct., starting Oct. 15.

“Vermont has some of the safest and most conservation-minded hunters anywhere,” Vermont Fish & Wildlife Commissioner Louis Porter comments.  “They need a publicly accessible place where they can sight in their rifles and practice their shooting skills.”

The range is located at 1081 Buck Lake Road in Woodbury.  According to Vermont Fish & Wildlife it "includes several lanes and benches with an overhead shelter, side berms, a backstop and a small parking area.  Target backstops range from 15, 25, and 50 yards."
