BackStory With The American History Guys

Sunday 6 - 7a.m., Tuesday 10-11p.m. on VPR, Beginning November 20, 2012

BackStory is a program that brings historical perspective to the events happening around us today.

On each show, renowned U.S. historians Ed Ayers, Peter Onuf, and Brian Balogh tear a topic from the headlines and plumb its historical depths. Over the course of the hour, they are joined by fellow historians, people in the news, and callers interested in exploring the roots of what's going on today.

Together, they drill down to colonial times and earlier, revealing the connections (and disconnections) between past and present.

Fresh Air

VPR is updating our program schedule on Sunday morning and Tuesday night. Backstory With The American History Guys is no longer being produced as a radio program. It will be replaced with Fresh Air Weekend on Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. and Snap Judgment Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m.

President Barack Obama and the first family touched down in Cuba on Sunday, making him the first sitting U.S. President to visit the island nation since 1928. Before Obama, the last and only American president to visit Cuba while in office was native Vermont son Calvin Coolidge, who traveled to Cuba to address the sixth Annual International Conference of American States in January 1928.
