The Opera Company of Middlebury provides a live preview of their 10th anniversary production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin.  They will give 5 fully-staged performances in Russian with English supertitles May 31 to June 8 at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater.

The Heliand Consort will tour northern Vermont May 8-11 with music of Telemann, Dvorak and others for flute, clarinet, bassoon and piano.  They join Walter Parker in the VPR Performance Studio for a live preview.

Vermont pianist Michael Arnowitt stops by the VPR Performance Studio for a live preview of his recital this Sunday at 3 at Montpelier Unitarian Church, including music of Bach, Beethoven, Debussy and Copland.

The great Hungarian-born cellist Janos Starker died Sunday at age 88.  Walter Parker speaks with cellist Daniel Lelchuk, a native of the Upper Valley, who spent a year studying with Starker.

This Sunday the Burlington Choral Society will perform Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light).  We'll listen to this remarkably beautiful work from 1997 Thursday morning at a bit past 10 on VPR Classical.

The Emerson String Quartet will play music of Dvorak, Schumann and Grieg tonight at the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth. It will be one of their last concerts with cellist David Finckel, ending 34 years of the same personnel. At 11 this morning we'll listen to him speak about his strong Vermont connection.

Scott Metcalfe is a Vermont native (son of well-known local musicians William and Elizabeth Metcalfe) who now directs Blue Heron, Boston's professional Renaissance choir. Blue Heron will perform music of Johannes Ockeghem at St. Michael's College this evening and at Grace Church in Rutland tomorrow evening.
