This weekend Edwin Lawrence conducts his final concerts as director of the Bennington County Choral Society, which he has led for 38 years.  The program includes masses by Schubert and Ariel Ramirez, plus Psalm Cycle by Lawrence, himself.  He recently spoke with Walter Parker.

Heath Quartet Live

The Heath Quartet from Great Britain is in Vermont to perform quartets of Beethoven, Bartok and Mendelssohn Sunday, April 6, at Marlboro College and Wednesday, April 9, at Middlebury College.  They stop by the VPR Performance Studio for a visit.

Vermont Virtuosi Live

Vermont Virtuosi return to the VPR Performance Studio for a preview of their 'Winter Spirits' concerts in Montpelier and Burlington.  Flutist Laurel Ann Mauer, clarinetist Karen Luttik and pianist Claire Black will play music including works by Vermont composers David Gunn and Thomas L. Read, who will be present to introduce their pieces.

Vermont pianist Paul Orgel returns to the VPR Performance Studio to give us a preview of his UVM recital of lesser-known late Romantic works by Ernest Chausson, Josef Suk and Max Reger.

Beatrice Rana Live

Italian pianist Beatrice Rana won the Silver Medal and the Audience Award at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.  She's in Vermont to perform at the UVM Lane Series on Friday.  She joins Walter Parker in the VPR Performance Studio for a preview.

Robert De Cormier was a composer, musician and arranger of choral music and worked with groups such as Peter, Paul and Mary and Harry Belafonte. He lived in Vermont for decades and passed away Tuesday.

This weekend Robert De Cormier conducts his final concerts as founding director of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus.  The program includes Brahms' German Requiem and Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and will be given in Burlington and Rutland.  De Cormier chats with VPR Classical's Walter Parker.

The Dover String Quartet (formerly the Old City String Quartet) performs an all-Beethoven concert Friday evening at College Street Congregational Church.  They stop by the VPR Performance Studio for a live preview.

The Burlington Ensemble, with VPR Classical's Joe Goetz as guest pianist, visits the VPR Performance Studio to play Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor, K. 478, which will be on their programs this week in Rutland, Stowe and Burlington.

Cellist Elinor Frey

Montreal-based Elinor Frey is the principal cellist of the ME2 Strings.  She has a new recording of music of cellist-composers of the Italian baroque.  We'll sample it when she drops by to chat Wednesday morning at 11, in advance of her CD release concert Wednesday evening at St. Paul's Cathedral in Burlington.

The Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival pays its annual visit to the VPR Performance Studio.  They'll give us a preview of their first weekend of concerts, including Brahms' Horn Trio, Beethoven's "Eyeglass" Duet, and Five Pieces for 2 Violins and Piano by Shostakovich.
