Saturday at 1 p.m., Saturday Matinee brings you the Lyric Opera Of Chicago's recent production of Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece, La Bohème.

Dan Rest/Lyric Opera Of Chicago

This week, beginning at 1 pm, Saturday Matinee features the double bill of Richard Strauss's Elektra and Englebert Humperdink's Hansel & Gretel from the Lyric Opera Of Chicago.

Christine Goerke sings the title role of Elektra. Emily Magee is Chrysothemis with Jill Grove as Clytemnestra, Alan Held as Orestes and Roger Honeywell as Aegisthus.

Sir Andrew Davis conducts.

This week on Saturday Matinee, we hear Jules Massenet's Werther performed by the Lyric Opera Of Chicago. It's probably Massenet's most familiar work to American audiences and is based on the German novel The Sorrows Of  Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goeth.

The cast includes Matthew Polenzani as Werther, Sophie Koch as Charlotte, Kiri Deonarine as Sophie, Craig Verm as Albert and Philip Kraus as Bailiff.
