Candidates for lieutenant governor met in a live debate on VPR on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Bob Kinzel and Jane Lindholm moderated a 90-minute debate with the three candidates running for lieutenant governor: incumbent Republican Phil Scott, Progressive and Democratic nominee Dean Corren, and Marina Brown of the Liberty Union Party.

Last week we conducted a series of interviews introducing the major party candidates who are challenging the current office holders for governor and lieutenant governor.

This is indeed an interesting primary season, with candidates switching parties in the gubernatorial race, Republicans struggling to find a party-endorsed candidate for governor and failing to put forward a full slate of down-ticket candidates.

Vermont Edition spoke with Bert Johnson, associate professor of political science at Middlebury College, to provide some context to the primary races in Vermont.

Scott Milne

The slate for the Republican gubernatorial primary wasn't complete until the filing deadline last Thursday. That was the day Pomfret businessman Scott Milne officially became a candidate for the position.

We talk with Milne about why he has decided to run for this position and his stance on single-payer health care, education finance and economic development in the state.
