It’s hard to avoid the hand-wringing about aging demographics in New England these days. The region's six states have the six lowest birth rates in the country. Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont have the oldest populations in the country, and Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts aren't far behind.

The City of Lebanon, New Hampshire, has passed an ordinance that will ban overnight parking. Those caught violating the ban will be given 48 hours to vacate or face a $100 fine.

Colby-Sawyer, a small, private liberal arts college in New Hampshire, will be downsizing.

In the Marines, Dan Crim learned how to strap an air-tight respirator over his mouth and nose to protect himself from a biological threat. He was glad to never have to use one in a combat zone during his five deployments overseas.

Now a retired Marine, Crim wears a respirator whenever he sets foot in the house he bought but no longer lives in.

The CEO of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dr. James Weinstein, has announced he will be retiring from his position at the end of June 2017.

New Hampshire polling places were under plenty of scrutiny on Election Day.

The attorney general’s office dispatched 50 people to polling locations across the state to keep an eye out for problems. The U.S. Department of Justice had its own Election Day hotline set up to field questions and potential complaints. Officials in the Secretary of State’s office, meanwhile, also kept an eye out for issues.

And, despite what President-Elect Donald Trump tweeted Sunday night, nowhere is there any evidence that large groups of people were voting illegally in New Hampshire.

President-elect Donald Trump is alleging there was quote-serious voter fraud in New Hampshire and other states during the election earlier this month, despite no evidence to back up such a claim.

Trump narrowly lost New Hampshire to Hillary Clinton, though won the election despite losing the overall popular vote.

In a series of tweets Sunday, Trump claimed he would have won the popular vote had it not been for the quote-millions of people who voted illegally.

Races in the Granite State were of interest to a national audience in this election, from the presidential race to one for a U.S. Senate seat.

Bill Clinton will campaign for his wife in New Hampshire on Monday. The former president plans to make stops at Keene State College and Dartmouth College in Hanover.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was back in New Hampshire today. The former Democratic presidential candidate was campaigning for his former rival Hillary Clinton.

He was also here to support New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan's bid for U.S. Senate. Sanders spoke with NHPR's Peter Biello.

New Hampshire state officials met with Hanover residents this week to discuss a chemical plume left over from a mid-century Dartmouth College hazardous waste burial site. The underground plume is threatening nearby wells and streams.

Months after postponing the passage of an ordinance that some say criminalizes homeless, the city of Lebanon, New Hampshire is bringing the ordinance back up for consideration.

In the last couple years, millions of people across the country have learned their drinking water contains high levels of the contaminants known as perfluorichemicals. These are used to make nonstick things like Teflon and pizza boxes.  And for those with illnesses that are linked to the contaminant, that knowledge can be helpful -- and frustrating.

A contamination running off a former burial plot for a Dartmouth research facility's hazardous waste has reached a local stream.

The school district that serves Claremont, Cornish and Unity, New Hampshire, has received federal funding to help serve its homeless student population.

Researchers at the University of New Hampshire think blue-green algae blooms may be contributing to the declining population of loons in certain New Hampshire lakes.

While scientists have long warned humans to stay clear of algae or cyanobacteria blooms, researchers at UNH now suspect they may be harming New Hampshire’s loon population. While the state’s overall loon population has been steadily rebounding each year, some lakes are still seeing losses.

The City Council of Lebanon, New Hampshire has declined to take up a proposed ordinance that would ban overnight parking on city property. 

The ordinance would have prohibited Lebanon's homeless population from parking the vehicles they live in.
