Saturday Matinee

The WFMT Radio Network is proud to make the American Opera Series available for broadcast here on VPR Classical. The American Opera Series is designed to complement the Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts, filling in the schedule with 29 weeks to complete the year.

This year the American Opera Series features great performances by the Lyric Opera of Chicago, LA Opera, San Francisco Opera, Caramoor and Opera Southwest.

Bayreuth Festival 2015 / Enrico Nawrath

Wagner from the source, in the very theater the composer designed for his music dramas. Deutsche Welle presents Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner, recorded from the opening concert of the Bayreuth festival 2015. Hear the Bayreuth Festival Chorus & Bayreuth Festival Orchestra conducted by Christian Thielemann.

LATE NOTE: New Hampshire's Patricia Racette was to have sung Leonora, but the Met informs us that she is ill. Leonora will be sung instead by Angela Meade.
