Communities around Vermont celebrate Independence Day in a variety of ways. There are plenty of fireworks displays, parades and community barbecues to choose from, some with unique twists. And there are some less traditional celebrations too...

Warren is among the towns looking at designated Neighborhood Development Areas. The Vermont Agency of Transportation is holding a meeting in Mount Holly to discuss rumble strips on Route 103. Middlebury is discussing changing its curbside recycling program.

This is the time of year Vermont cities and towns set the municipal tax rates and start sending out property tax bills. Vermont property taxes pay for public education as well as municipal infrastructure and government services. As such, municipal tax rates vary widely based upon the level of service provided by cities and towns.

There's a lot going on around Vermont for the Fourth of July, from an Outhouse Race in Bristol to an old-fashioned boxcar Downhill Derby in Morrisville.
