Yes it was....All the Traditions debuted on VPR on October 13th, 1996, and we are celebrating our 20th anniversary by featuring some of the many local artists who have performed live on the show !  It's been a marvelous musical ride so far, and we're still going strong!

Thinking of the late, great Oscar Brand, a folk music champion who had 71 years (!!) of folk radio under his belt when he passed on this week at the age of 96.

This program will air on Sunday October 9th from 7-9 p.m. (an hour shorter than usual because of the upcoming presidential debate at 9 p.m.)

As a key member of the Stax Records house rhythm section and a founding member of the Memphis Horns, tenor saxophonist Andrew Love played on hundreds of memorable recordings during a career in music that extended almost five decades.

Music from some of the all-time great harmonica masters to honor the life and music of  Toots Thielemans, one of the greatest of all, who died earlier this week at the age of 94.  Also a preview of the 24th annual New World Festival, another high point in a summer full of great folk music.

Trumpet player Wayne Jackson passed away on June 21, 2016 in Memphis, Tennessee at age 74. During a professional career that extended over 55 years, Wayne Jackson played horn on 52 chart-topping singles and on 93 gold and platinum albums.
